WHAT CAN YOU TYPICALLY EXPECT TO LEARN?
Boxing classes teach you more about fighting than you might ever realise. Boxing improves fitness levels, reflex speed, flexibility, and teaches skill which would make you more comfortable in a real fight.
In a boxing class you will learn striking, how to punch, guard postures and defensive boxing techniques, as well as upper body movements and footwork, and tactics on how to apply boxing strategies to different types of opponents.
Boxing drill techniques develop faster attacking and defending reflexes, improved multi-tasking abilities (simultaneous offence & defence) and overall natural fighting reflexes.
WHY YOU SHOULD TAKE UP BOXING
Boxing training is becoming increasingly popular as more and more people recognise the health benefits and realise that you can train like a boxer without actually competing.
Boxing training provides great all over body conditioning, no matter what your age or level of ability. It's a great way of improving stamina and boosting the cardiovascular system while improving core strength and balance. Boxing routines and exercises improve students’ fitness levels.
Boxing classes offer extremely popular weight schemes, These help people to achieve realistic and attainable weight goals through boxing training.
WHO CAN TAKE UP BOXING
People can participate in boxing on different levels. Anyone can train to box male, female young or senior but you must be aged 11 or over to spar or compete. You can compete in amateur boxing until the age of 34, and can continue to train after this.
Every boxer training to compete needs to get ‘carded’. Boxing clubs can provide you with a medical card (ME3) which needs to be signed by a doctor confirming you are fit to box.
Training to compete includes sparring with other members of your club to develop your skills. When you are ready to compete, your club coaches 'match' you based age, weight and experience. Boxing is regulated to ensure the safety of the boxer and that the bouts are fair.
